BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- An early goal from Molly Laufenberg proved all the difference, as the No. 13 Wisconsin women's soccer team earned a 1-0 shutout on the road against Indiana at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, on Friday night.

Laufenberg scored the first goal of her career in the 12th minute, which gave the Badgers (9-1-0, 3-1-0 Big Ten) an early 1-0 lead over the Hoosiers (5-6-0, 1-4-0) and stood as the lone score in the win.

With the victory, Wisconsin earned its seventh shutout in 10 games this season. The Badgers, who have allowed just four goals, also improved to 4-1-0 on the road.

"Anytime you get three points on the road it's great," UW head coach Paula Wilkins said. "Especially in Indiana, where they have great crowds and turnout here. To do that, and also get the shutout, it shows our group defending."

While the Badgers outshot the Hoosiers 9-5, Indiana had its opportunities to score and earned eight corner kicks to just one by Wisconsin.

"We got the result, but we've also got to clean up some things in the next day or two here to prepare for a very tough Purdue team on Sunday," Wilkins said.

It was Laufenberg who quickly gave the Badgers a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. Taking a cross from the right endline by Kodee Williams, the junior defender beat IU goalkeeper Sarah Stone right post for the score.

It marked the second goal by a Badger defender this season, after Brianna Stelzer also scored her first career goal earlier this season on the road against Washington.

The assist from Williams marked her team-leading seventh helper of the season.

"It was great," Wilkins said of the early score. "We've talked about our backs getting forward and involved offensively. We also talk about big players making big plays and that was just another example of that."

The early strike marked the sixth goal scored by the Badgers this season within the first 11:08 of games. Those quick starts have served Wisconsin well, as the team is an undefeated 9-0-0 when scoring first.

Genevieve Richard earned her ninth win of the season at goalkeeper, called on to make just one save during the full 90 minutes of work.

Wisconsin claimed its sixth win in the last seven meetings with Indiana, including three of the last four in Bloomington.

Sophomore midfielder Rose Lavelle finished with a game-high four shots on the night, including two of the Badgers' six shots on goal.

Freshman forward Sydney McGinnis posted two shots on goal in 23 minutes from off the bench.

Wisconsin continues its weekend road trip facing Purdue on Sunday in West Lafayette, Indiana. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
