Badgers looking to continue success on the road
MADISON, Wis. – With a week off from play, the Wisconsin men's soccer team takes to the road for one final road challenge of the regular season. The Badgers, having won two of their last three road games, look to continue their road success on Saturday when they face Indiana. The Big Ten battle is set to begin at 6 p.m. CT at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
The Hoosiers (9-4-2, 2-3-1 Big Ten) host the Badgers (4-9-3, 1-2-3) for the 24th time in the all-time series, as UW seeks its second win ever in Bloomington. The pair have met 43 times throughout the history of the Wisconsin men's soccer program, and the Badgers trail the Hoosiers 5-33-6 going into the 44th all-time meeting. Most recently, the two teams played to a double overtime draw in Madison last year.
Coming off a two-game winning streak at home against Louisville and Michigan, the Hoosiers look to keep success rolling as they close out a three-game homestand.
IU returns 19 players from last year's roster, including 13 letterwinners. The group includes 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List member Tanner Thompson, who stands tied in second place with 11 points on the season. Senior Femi Hollinger-Janzen leads the Hoosiers in points this season with 16 off of six goals and four assists.
Another player of note for Indiana is Grant Lillard, who was awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2013. Lillard ranks second on the team with Thompson at 11 points.
Indiana freshman Jeremiah Gutjahr was also just recently asked to play with the United States Under-20 National Team in Germany at the beginning of October.
Leading the Badgers as an offensive force this season is Christopher Mueller, who leads the team in all categories except assists. Racking up 13 points off of five goals and three assists, Mueller recorded a season and career high eight shots against Penn State last Saturday, four of which were on goal.
Since returning from injury to the Badgers' starting lineup, Mike Catalano immediately got to work in the midfield, and has scored a goal in two straight games.
The pair of 2014 Big Ten All-Freshman team members Tom Barlow and Mark Segbers has also created an offensive threat for the Badgers this year. The St. Louis duo ranks second and third on the team with nine and eight points, respectively.
The Badgers' back line, spearheaded by freshman Sam Brotherton, has also proven itself worthy, as goalkeeper Adrian Remeniuk and the rest of the team have recorded three shutouts this season.
Following the road trip to Bloomington, the Badgers return home to close out the regular season with a game against Northwestern on Wednesday, Nov. 4. The game between the Badgers and the Wildcats is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the McClimon Complex.Â
