INDIANAPOLIS -- UW opened its 2015-16 season at the Head of the Eagle on Saturday, racing both novice and varsity boats.

In a wet and windy day, the Badgers had 13 boats participate in a total of seven events throughout the day with head races beginning at 9 a.m. and dual sprint races at 3:30 p.m.
 
The top finish of the day came from the novice eight (A) who took first place in a time of 16:05.00. In the same race, novice eight (B) took third place with a time of 16:43.00.
 
Another top finish for the Badgers came in the varsity four, with boats claiming second and third place with times of 17:46.00 and 18:02.00, respectively. They finished behind Michigan who finished with a time of 17:26.00.
 
The Badgers will race again on Sunday at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, New Jersey. It will be strictly the varsity racing for Sunday's event.

"To say that the guys are eager to race this weekend is an understatement," Head Coach Chris Clark said. "We missed the Head of the Charles this year and local regatta that we all used to travel to, the Head of the Iowa, is defunct. This group of twenty seven is nearly half sophomores so it should be aggressive if not slick. As far as our strategy, my old friend Mike Teti, now the coach at Cal, used to say when exasperated, "Just row normal! (albeit in more colorful language) and that's just what we hope to do"
