No. 7 Wisconsin to face No. 2 Indiana in tournament quarterfinal
MADISON, Wis. – Riding the momentum of a home win over Northwestern on Wednesday night, the Wisconsin men's soccer team heads back to Bloomington for the second time in three games to face Indiana on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament. The rematch between the No. 7 Badgers and No. 2 Hoosiers will kick off at noon (CT) at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.Â
Wisconsin (5-10-3, 2-3-3 Big Ten) faced Indiana last Saturday night and fell in a close 1-0 contest, as the Hoosiers got a second-half goal from freshman Austin Panchot to pull out the home victory.Â
"This team has continued to grow and continued to get better," head coach John Trask said after the team's win over Northwestern, "Now it's one-and-done time. We had a heck of a matchup with Indiana last weekend, but this is going to be an intense environment and it'll bring out the best in us hopefully."
Sunday's postseason meeting marks the 45th match between the two Big Ten squads. Riding a four-game win streak, the Hoosiers (11-4-2, 4-3-1) look to upend the Badgers for the second time eight days.
Mark Segbers and the Badgers assure they won't be an easy out though.
"We know that we're going to fight for each other and have each other's back," the sophomore forward said. "It's us against the world. We know that the guy next to us is going to be working just as hard, if not harder than us, so it's a team unity thing knowing that we're all in it together."
Leading the Hoosiers this year is senior Femi Hollinger-Janzen, who has collected 19 points off of seven goals and five assists. Not far behind him is 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List candidate Tanner Thompson, who has 15 points from three goals and nine assists.Â
On the Wisconsin side, sophomore Christopher Mueller continues to lead the Badgers with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Segbers, after scoring the game-winner against Northwestern on Wednesday, now ranks second among Badgers with 10 points on three goals and four assists. Fellow sophomore strike Tom Barlow is third with nine points on three goals and three assists.Â
Sunday's Big Ten tournament quarterfinal game will be streamed live on BTN Plus beginning with kickoff at noon in Bloomington.
