CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas-- After dropping a close battle to UAB on Saturday, 8-7, the Badgers lost another heartbreaker, with the Blazers recording a 3-2 walk-off win on Sunday morning at the Islander Invitational.

Wisconsin closed out tournament action in Corpus Christi, Texas, with a 4-2 record and now is 5-6 on the season.

Junior Taylor-Paige Stewart held the Blazers (5-4) scoreless for five innings, before UAB scored two runs to up the game 2-2 in the sixth inning, and then scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game.

Five different Badgers recorded a hit in the game, with junior Ashley Van Zeeland brining in one runner. UAB recorded nine hits, led by three from Caitlin Attfield.

It was a defensive battle to start, as both teams went scoreless through the first three innings.

But that changed in the fourth, with the Badgers scoring two runs thanks to Van Zeeland. Van Zeeland doubled to bring in freshman Brianna Flugaur to put Wisconsin up 1-0. With Van Zeeland on second and junior Katie Christner on first, the Badgers went for a double steal, and Van Zeeland came all the way home after a UAB throwing error to double the Wisconsin lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, UAB scored on an RBI single, but the Blazers' run was taken away after being called for an illegal substitution.

The Blazers tied the game in the sixth as UAB's Sara Beth Williamson smacked a hit down the right field line brining in two runners to tie it up 2-2.

Wisconsin couldn't score in the top of the seventh, with senior Megan Tancill and sophomore Chloe Miller lining out to shortstop and freshman Kelsey Jenkins grounding out. The Blazers then took advantage of the opportunity to win the game, scoring on a sac fly to right field to take a 3-2 walk-off win.

Stewart tallied two strikeouts and allowed nine hits and three runs in 6.1 innings pitched.  UW recorded six stolen bases in the game.

After playing 11 games in 10 days, the Badgers will have the week off of competition before traveling to Las Vegas for the Alexis Park Resort Classic, hosted by UNLV, Feb. 27-March 1. Wisconsin will face Idaho State, New Mexico State, Louisiana-Monroe and DePaul during the three-day tournament.
