MADISON, Wis.-- The Wisconsin women's softball team fell in a doubleheader series to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, falling 13-5 in game one and 3-2 in game two.

"Nebraska is a great team and I'm really proud of how our kids came out today," Wisconsin head coach Yvette Healy said. "I think Mariah (Watts) threw one of her better games of the season and did a really nice job. It was an exciting game right down to the wire, so it shows bright for the future when one of your freshman pitchers does such a great job. I'm looking forward to the last game of the matchup tomorrow."

Fast Facts
· Wisconson out-hit Nebraska, 7-6, in the second game.
· Miller gets her 15th double of the season.
· The Badgers tallied two errors in each game.

In game one, an explosive third inning proved to be too much for the Badgers to overcome. Wisconsin (19-27, 3-13 Big Ten) recorded just two errors compared to Nebraska's three. Nebraska (28-19, 14-5) held the upper hand in hits, however, as the Badgers tallied six hits to Nebraska's eight.

The Badgers took the lead in the second inning thanks to a strong three-run performance. Seniors Megan Tancill and Maria Van Abel each scored off fellow senior Marissa Mersch's single. Kelsey Jenkins then scored the final run of the inning off a Nebraska error that allowed junior Ashley Van Zeeland to reach.

Pitching the first three innings was Taylor-Paige Stewart, who gave up just one run in the first two innings. In the third inning, an infield error set the Nebraska offense up to score eight Cornhusker runs. Stewart allowed a total of nine runs and seven hits with one strikeout.

Annie Davis entered the game as the relief pitcher in the fourth inning. Davis, a freshman out of Paradise Valley, Arizona, allowed four runs in her first inning after the Badgers committed another costly infield error. Davis allowed one hit and four runs in her two innings in the pitcher's circle.

Wisconsin recorded a run in the fourth inning after Chloe Miller's double sent Jenkins home.

In the fifth inning, Van Abel knocked a hard single into left field with one out on the board. After Van Abel swiped second, Samantha Arents entered the game as a pinch hitter and reached on an error that brought Van Abel in to score. The run wasn't as enough as Nebraska clinched the 13-5 run-rule victory.

The second game proved to be a much closer contest. Despite falling 3-2, Wisconsin out-hit Nebraska, 7-6. Nebraska also had one error while the Badgers tallied two.

The Badgers got on the board first, as Mersch singled to left field in the third inning to bring home Tancill and Jenkins for the 2-0 lead.

The Huskers scored once in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to quietly steal the lead. In the top of the seventh inning, the Badgers rose to the occasion and held Nebraska to zero runs, but Wisconsin could not regain the lead to capture the win.

Freshman Mariah Watts took the loss, allowing a total of three runs and six hits with one strikeout.

The Badgers are back in action tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. (CT) for the annual "Get to Goodman" game and senior day against Nebraska.
