
Badgers brave soggy conditions to finish seventh

Hahn placed second overall, picked up multiple career-bests

MADISON, Wis. - Despite a delayed shotgun start for the third round of the 54-hole Badger Invitational, the tournament wrapped up, Tuesday, at University Ridge, as the Wisconsin men's golf team finished seventh.
Wet playi conditions due to heavy rainfall overnight had a significant effect on performance, as nearly every team recorded its worst 18-hole score on Tuesday.
The Badgers (302-294-312=908) shot a 24-over 312 in the final round, putti the team at 44-over for the tournament. UW finished four shots off USC Upstate (+40, 300-297-307=904) in sixth.
After holdi a 36-hole lead enteri Tuesday, Miami (OH) (+9, 278-290-305=873) was jumped by Kansas (+1, 283-286-296=865) in the third round.
There was a huge drop-off between second and third, as Ball State (289-296-309=894), which remained in the same position for the entire tournament, finished at 30-over.
Butler (+34, 298-301-299=898) moved up from seventh to fourth and William & Mary (+35, 297-301-301=899) went from sixth to fifth on Tuesday.
Individual competitor Jordan Hahn (72-68-71=211) proved to be unfazed by soggy playi conditions, as the freshman improved his score to 5-under, which advanced him to second on the player leaderboard. He shot 1-under in the third round, but was unable to catch Patrick Flavin of Miami (OH), who finished at 9-under.
The leader faltered early with three bogies on his first five holes, recoveri late with four birdies to earn the second-lowest Badger Invitational score all-time and tie for the fourth-best University Ridge men's collegiate mark.
Hahn set career-highs for 18, 36 and 54 holes and picked up his best tournament finish. His 54-hole score of 211 is tied for the eighth-best score all-time at the Badger Invitational.
Fellow individual golfer Michael Abrahamson placed just behind Hahn in a tie for third, which notes a new career-best. Abrahamson went 4-over on the day to finish at a 1-over 71-70-76=217. Similar to his teammate, Abrahamson grabbed new 36- and 54-hole career lows.
Johnny Decker (79-73-76=228) was the Badgers' third individual competitor. He placed in a tie for 33rd at 12-over.
Matt Ross was UW's top team performer at a 7-over 74-72-77=223.
Eddie Wajda III (77-74-73), who went 1-over in the third round, trailed Ross by just one stroke overall at 8-over. The sophomore finished tied for 20th.
Next for Wisconsin were Ben Skogen (+10, 75-73-78=226) tied for 27th and Tommy Schofield (+19, 76-75-84=235) in 58th. Skogen went 6-over on Tuesday, while Schofield registered a third-round score of 12-over.
Brett Robinson rounded out the team scori with a 27-over 77-79-87=243 to put him in 73rd.
UW returns to the links, Oct. 5-7, at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate in Hartford, Wisconsin.
