Hey Badger Fans!
Two weekends ago, the Badgers swept at home, defeating the Bemidji State Beavers 5-0 on Saturday and 6-0 on Sunday.
Saturday's game had consisted of a plethora of goals from multiple Badgers, including two from sophomore
Mikaela Gardner, two snipes from freshman
Presley Norby, and a goal from Baby Badger freshman
Alexis Mauermann.
Alexis's goal was her first ever goal wearing the Cardinal and Red, as she buried the puck in the back of the net off a beautiful pass from her linemate
Sophia Shaver.
"Scoring my first goal was really exciting, especially in the home rink!" Alexis recalled. "I have to give a lot of credit to Abby and Sophia because they had some really good plays, so I was able to tap it in! Honestly in my mind I was thinking, 'don't miss' because they set me up so well."
Congrats my little mentee!
Alexis' scoring streak had carried into Sunday's game, as she scored two more goals. Superstar senior
Sarah Nurse and freshman
Abby Roque each shared a pair of goals as well.
Other highlights from that weekend included a monster game by
Sophia Shaver, who tallied four assists in two games.
"I thought we played well,"
Mikaela Gardner said of the team's efforts. "Things were working for us, and we had a lot of energy out on the ice. It's always nice to see a lot of different players scoring and contributing, our freshmen class played very well."
The weekend also resulted in some record-shattering events. Senior Ann-Renee Desbiens received her 44th career shutout, breaking the NCAA record.
"I'm definitely happy about it," Desbiens told UWBadgers.com. "I'll stop getting questions about it now that I have it, maybe not. But it's fun to Havel, especially after this week, which was a little harder. It's a victory mentally, would say. It's nice to be able to do that as a team to show how consistent we've been."
We're proud of you Ann!! Best goalie in the league.
The Badgers did not have any games this past weekend, taking time off to rest, catch up on homework, and visit family. It's been great getting back on the ice this week as we prepare to take on Minnesota Duluth.
"I think we will carry this momentum into Minnesota Duluth," Gards noted. "And we'll need it, as they will give us their very best."
The Badgers take on the UMD Bulldogs in a two-game series, playing Friday night at the AMSOIL Arena at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday at 4:07 p.m.
Once again, we want to thank you all for your endless support. You all make playing in LaBahn each weekend so much fun!
Until next time, Badger Fans!
On Wisconsin!
