How the Badgers fought their way back to the Big Dance

MADISON, Wis. — The March 16 edition of Varsity Magazine is now available, featuring a complete preview of the Badgers' 18th-straight trip to the NCAA men's basketball tournament, an exclusive journey to head coach Greg Gard's hometown of Cobb, Wisconsin, and a look at UW's quarterback situation as spring practice opens.

In mid-January as the Badgers sat at 9-9 overall following a road loss to Northwestern, not many people had UW pegged to extend its March Madness streak. So how did UW turn it around? It started with some changes on the offensive end and a players-only meeting following that loss at Northwestern. UWBadgers.com Senior Writer Mike Lucas takes you inside the UW locker room to get the players' persepective on their late-season run. Much has been written about Greg Gard's journey to become the head coach of his home state university. His rise has put Cobb, Wisconsin on the map. UWBadgers.com Insider Andy Baggot took a fascinating trip to the tiny town in southwestern Wisconsin to see what affect it had in shaping Gard and just what the locals had to say about their hometwon boy making it big. Read it HERE.

All eyes are always on the quarterback in football and this year is no different for the Badgers. As spring practice opened this week, UW did so with just two healthy scholarship QBs, fifth-year senior Bart Houston and redshirt freshman Alex Hornibrook. While the two may be battling to earn the starting job come Sept. 3, they are both just focused on getting better each day this spring. Read it HERE.

In his weekly column, "The Voice of the Badgers" Matt Lepay writes about what many fans feel, that March Madness will never get old. UW's current 18-year streak of going to the Big Dance is tied for the fifth-longest in history but each year brings its own excitement, something Lepay (and Badgers fans) will never get tired of.
