UW jumps two spots in final round of Boilermaker Invitational

Badgers placed 13th in last regular-season tournament of 2015-16
RESULTS
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – In the final round of the 54-hole Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday at the par-72, 7,400-yard Kampen Course, the Wisconsin men's golf team moved up two spots to finish 13th with a 34-over 898.

The score marked the Badgers' (+34, 306-298-294=898) second-best three-round total of the spring season. UW was just one stroke back of 12th-place Northern Illinois (+33, 295-300-302=897) which posted a 33-over 897.

Illinois (-17, 280-277-290=847) snagged the tournament crown, ending at 17-under. Host Purdue (-10, 284-286-284=854) took second, while Northwestern (-3, 292-288-281=861), Kent State (+1, 296-289-280=865) and Michigan State (+8, 294-286-292=872) rounded out the top five, in order.

Additionally, fellow Big Ten schools Ohio State (+20, 296-296-292=884) and Indiana (+37, 300-302-299=901) placed seventh and 15th, respectively.

Charlie Danielson (-9, 70-65-72=207) held on to the top spot on the player leaderboard, beating out teammate and Nick Hardy (-6, 68-72-70=210) and the Spartans' Charlie Netzel (-6, 74-71-65=210), who tied for second.

Jordan Hahn (+5, 74-73-74=221) matched his first-round output with a 2-over 74 in Round 3, giving him a 5-over 221 for the two-day event. The freshman placed in a tie for 31st.

Next for the Badgers was Ben Skogen (+10, 77-75-74=226) in a knot for 54th. He recorded the same 18-hole score as Hahn on Sunday to finish at 10-over.

Sophomore Eddie Wajda III (+13, 76-75-78=229), who was the Badgers' top finisher in their previous four tournaments, tied for 61st, as he registered a 13-over 229.
Matt Ross (+15, 79-77-75=231) was two strokes behind Wajda, posting a 15-over 231. He netted his best 18-hole score on Sunday, going for a 3-over 75. The senior placed knotted-for-68th.

Rounding out UW's team competitors, Michael Abrahamson (+17, 87-75-71=233) finished in a tie for 72nd. Despite the low placement, he improved his score in each round, including a 1-under 71 in Round 3 which was the lowest 18-hole output among any Badger at the event.

Wisconsin's lone individual golfer, Johnny Decker (+17, 77-79-77=233), picked up the same finish as Abrahamson—72nd—with a 17-over 233 for the weekend.
"I'm so proud of our guys and their last 27 holes," head coach Michael Burcin said. "I was a proud coach today, watching a guy like (Michael) Abrahamson battle back from his first round. Also, guys like (Ben) Skogen and (Matt) Ross battled to the last hole today.

"We are missing consistency but our young guys are learning by fire and I think this was an important day heading into the postseason."

With the regular season coming to an end, the Badgers will next compete at the Big Ten Championships, April 22-24, at Victoria National Golf Course in Newburgh, Indiana.
