MADISON, Wis. – With the regular season at an end, postseason play is upon the Wisconsin men's golf team.
The Badgers will compete April 22-24 at the 2016 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships at the par 72, 7,239-yard Victoria National Golf Course in Newburgh, Indiana.
UW's five-man squad for the conference tournament includes: No. 1 Jordan Hahn, No. 2 Ben Skogen, No. 3 Eddie Wajda III, No. 4 Michael Abrahamson and No. 5 Matt Ross.
Hahn holds the lowest 18-hole score on the team this season, as he notched a 5-under 67 in the second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, April 3-5.
Skogen, on the other hand, netted the best 54-hole scorecard of 2015-16 campaign. In the first event of the year at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, Sept. 21-22, he went for a 3-under 210 to place tied for second—the highest finish of his career.
Wajda leads Wisconsin in scoring average at 73.86 strokes per round which currently ranks 11th in school history. The sophomore also leads the team in top-25 placements with four, including a fifth-place finish at The Grove Intercollegiate, Oct. 25-27.
Abrahamson owns the second-most under-par rounds (four) among UW golfers, trailing Skogen's five. His 3-under 69 in Round 1 at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate, Oct. 4-6, is also tied for the second-lowest 18-hole output of the year.
Ross, Wisconsin's lone senior, showed promise in the Badgers' final regular-season tournament, as he improved in three consecutive rounds at the Boilermaker Invitational, April 16-17. He had a 79 in the first round before going for a 77 and 75 in Round 2 and 3, respectively, to place 68th.
Last season, UW earned its best conference finished 5th at the conference tournament, marking their best placement since 2007. The team was fairly steady throughout the event, registering a 31-over 291-293-293-306=1183.
There are only two current Badgers golfers that competed at the 2015 Big Ten Championships, as Ross (+8, 77-72-74-73=296) placed tied-for-18th with an 8-over 296 and Wajda (+19, 73-77-77-80=307) finished in a knot for 47th at 19-over.
