WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field throwers began May on a high note, sweeping the throwing events at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet on Sunday.
The meet which was originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed to Sunday due to inclement weather. However that didn't faze the Badgers as they dominated the competition and produced multiple top and personal-best performances.
The winning streak started as the Badgers claimed the top-two spots in the discus with redshirt freshman
Hanna Barton winning the event with a personal-best toss of 160 feet, three inches. The mark moved Barton up the school's top-ten list and as the McFarland native now ranks seventh.
True freshman
Haley Showalter finished second in the discus with a collegiate personal-best distance of 159-10, which is over four feet longer then her previous record. Showalter also moved up the ranks of the school record list with the new mark sitting at eighth.
To add to her accolades, Showalter claimed victory in her specialty, the hammer throw, with a collegiate-best distance of 189-1. The mark was over 18 ½ feet further than the runner-up, Lizzy Abhold of UW-Oshkosh, and is now ranked fourth in Wisconsin history. In addition, the Highlands Ranch, Colorado, native, ranks 10th in the Big Ten.
Redshirt freshman
Banke Oginni kept the winning streak going for UW as she won the shot put with a heave of 46-6.
Redshirt senior
Brianna Bower capped off the winning-streak for the Badgers, with a win in the javelin after recording a mark of 147-8.
Redshirt sophomore
