MINNEAPOLIS – Sophomore
Presley Norby scored with five minutes left in the third to give the No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team a 3-2 victory over No. 6 Minnesota on Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena.
Norby, a Minnetonka, Minnesota, native, also earned the primary assist on the Badgers' (11-0-0, 5-0-0-0 WCHA) first goal of the game, courtesy of junior
Sophia Shaver. Shaver gave UW a 1-0 lead just 30 seconds into the first period after collecting a pass from Norby and flipping the puck over the shoulder of Minnesota (5-3-1, 4-2-1-0 WCHA) goaltender Sydney Peters.Â
Minnesota's Lindsay Agnew found the back of the net three minutes later to knot the game at 1-1.
Senior co-captain
Baylee Wellhausen notched her first goal of the year off a stellar feed from sophomore
Abby Roque to put the Badgers up 2-1 midway through the first frame.
The Gophers tied the game once more in the third on a power play, but Norby knocked home the gamewinner off a deflected shot from senior Maddie Roles with five minutes remaining to give the Badgers the victory.
Three Notes of the Game
- Saturday's win marked UW's first regular-season win at Ridder Arena since Nov. 6, 2010.
- Kristen Campbell improved to 11-0-0 in her UW career, stopping 25 of the 27 shots she faced.
- Wisconsin picked up its first win of the year over a ranked team.
Play of the Game
Campbell made a huge save in the first period on Minnesota's Kippen Keller on a breakaway to help the Badgers hold onto their one-goal lead heading into the first intermission.

UW head coach Mark Johnson
On the victory:
"We found a way to win. As I told the team it was a B minus game. Hopefully tomorrow we'll come back, we'll get some video and we'll understand that everybody will bring their A game against us."
On what the win means for the Minnesota natives:
"I think they're excited. A lot of family members on both sides. These kids lived about 10 minutes away, and they played against their friends. So for them to come out and Sophia to score and make it one nothing and then Presley with the gamewinner with four or five minutes to go, kudos to them. Hopefully they enjoy it."
Sophomore Presley Norby
On the Border Battle
"It was just a really fun game. It was really fast and it was a great atmosphere here in Ridder. They always bring a lot of energy so it was a really fun game."
On what to expect on Sunday:
"I think a lot of teams always give us their best game so we're definitely expecting their best second effort tomorrow."
