BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Just a few weeks into her collegiate career,
Lexi Keberle is already putting together a pretty impressive resume. The freshman from West Bend, Wis. added Samford Round Robin champion to her ledger after going 3-0 this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama.
Overall, the Wisconsin women's tennis team ended the tournament 7-2 in singles play and 3-3 in doubles.
Keberle defeated two opponents on Saturday on her way to the championship in the Flight A singles bracket. Keberle defeated Scchipakina of UAB, 6-1, 6-3. She then took down Hannah Sohn from Memphis, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (9) in the final match.
Castellano won both of her backdraw matches Saturday,topping Tanit Lopez of Southern Mississippi, 6-1, 6-4 and Marlene Herrmann of UAB, 6-4, 6-3.
Pick continued her success and made her way to the final match after beating Luisa Zirilli, 6-3, 6-0, before eventually falling to Megan Bertrands, 6-2, 6-2 in the championship match.
In doubles, Wisconsin went 2-1 on Saturday. Keberle and Castellano won their third-place match, 6-4, against a Tulsa duo. Pick and Voss took down a Samford pair, 6-2, in their first match of the day. The pair then lost, 6-1, to a diferent Samford pair.
Up next: Wisconsin will travel east to Ann Arbor, Michiganto participate in the USTA/ITA regionals. The tournament runs Oct. 12-17.

Another Step forward: Women gather victories in Samford
Keberle and Pick each took their first singles match
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Day one of tennis action in Birmingham, Alabama provided the Wisconsin women's tennis team with not only more experience but a few victories too.
Play at the Samford Round Robin began Friday morning for the Badgers. Exiting Friday Wisconsin possessed a 1-2 doubles record and a 2-1 singles mark.
Freshman and senior Lexi Keberle and Sara Castellano took their first doubles match 6-4 against a pair from Samford. After dropping their second match, 6-2, Keberle and Castellano were scheduled to play in the third-place doubles match.
Melissa Pick was paired up with Natalie Voss of UAB in doubles, the pair dropped its first match to a duo from Southern Mississippi.
Wisconsin's singles lineup found more success. Keberle defeated her first opponent, Kermet of MTSU, 6-1, 6-0. Pick took down Fujioka from Southern Alabama 7-5, 6-2 in her first singles competition of the season. Castellano was defeated by Elle Gerlach from Samford in the first round.
Up next: Wisconsin continues play Saturday, which is planned to be the final day of the tournament due to weather.
