Reinecke ties for 25th to lead Wisconsin

ORLANDO, Fla. -- On the last day of the UCF Challenge, the Wisconsin women's golf team clawed its way up the team standings to finish in a tie for eighth place at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.

"Conditions were definitely more difficult since the winds picked up so it was a little harder to score today," UW head coach Todd Oehrlein said. "We were pretty consistent despite the winds though so it was a solid start to the spring overall."

After leading the Badgers all tournament, sophomore Jessica Reinecke (67-72-77=216) finished tied for 25th overall to be UW's top golfer. Reinecke finished the tournament at even par to pick up her second top-25 finish as a Badger.

Just two strokes behind Reinecke, junior Becky Klongland (72-75-71=218) recorded her best round of the tournament with a 1-under 71 on the final day to surge up the leaderboard to a tie for 33rd place.

Senior Michelle Cheung (70-73-76=219) tied for 38th place to earn her best finish of the year, while sophomore Nat Zeng (74-73-73=220) shot a 1-over 73 in the final round to finish one stroke back and tie for 45th place.

Junior Gabby Curtis (75-79-73=227) also recorded her best round with a 1-over 73 to end the tournament in a tie for 76th place. Freshman Eloise Healey (79-80-86=245), who competed as an individual, finished in 91st place.

No. 50 Clemson and No. 14 Miami shared the tournament title by finishing at 14-under par, while No. 17 Texas (-10), No. 20 UCF (-10) and Mississippi State (-10) tied for third. Tenth-ranked Kent State (-3) finished in sixth place, followed by No. 38 Auburn at even par. The No. 34 Badgers and No. 35 SMU both finished at five-over par to tie for eighth, and Daytona State finished three strokes back to round out the top-10 of the 17-team field.

"I thought a lot of the work that the players put in during the fall and winter break was really evident here today," Oehrlein said. "We have really worked to develop a lot of depth and that certainly paid off this weekend and will continue to do so through the rest of season."

Next up, the Badgers head to Peoria, Arizona, to host the Westbrook Spring Invitational from Feb. 26-27 at the Westbrook Village Golf Course.
