Wisconsin brings home four titles

Castellano, Pick wrap up perfect 3-0 weekends

MADISON, Wis. – Following a singles sweep on the first day and a doubles sweep on day two, the Badgers wrapped up the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational with a balanced effort in both categories on Sunday.
 
Senior Sara Castellano won her flight in singles play, finishing the tournament 3-0. Sophomore Melissa Pick also brought home a title in her flight, finishing with a 3-0 singles mark.
 
The Badgers also brought home two doubles titles with the duos of Castellano and Pick and senior Kelsey Grambeau and freshman Lexi Keberle winning their flights.
 
On Sunday, Wisconsin picked up five singles victories and two doubles wins. The Badgers were paired against Nevada in singles and Cal State Northridge in doubles play.
 
Castellano and Pick both defeated their opponent in straight sets, while Keberle, sophomore Michelle Linden and Grambeau wrapped their matches up in three sets.
 
Up next: Wisconsin kicks off the dual season with a home match against Northern Illinois at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. (CT).

Wisconsin sweeps doubles in day two
Badgers take doubles 3-0, pick up two of six singles matches
 
MADISON, Wis. – After going 6-0 in singles play during the first day of the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational, Wisconsin came back in day two to sweep doubles.
 
The Badgers took all three matches over three duos from Nevada.
 
In singles play versus Long Beach State, Wisconsin's Sara Castellano and Melissa Pick grabbed the Badgers' two victories. Castellano moves to 10-5 on the season after defeating Natalia Munoz, 6-0, 6-2. Pick took down Maren Helgo, 6-0, 6-4.
 
Senior Kelsey Grambeau, sophomores Michelle Linden and Christina Zordani and freshman Lexi Keberle dropped their matches. Keberle and Linden both took their matches into three sets before being beaten.
 
Wisconsin rounds out play in California on Sunday, Jan. 21, by taking on Nevada in singles and Cal State Northridge in doubles.

Badgers sweep singles
UW finished day one 6-0 in singles play
 
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team wrapped up Friday's competition at the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational going 6-0 in singles.
 
The Badgers faced off against Cal State Northridge in singles and Long Beach State – the host school – in doubles. The Badgers swept singles play and finished 1-2 on the doubles courts.
 
Freshman Lexi Keberle handled her opponent, 6-3, 6-0. Sophomore Melissa Pick made quick work of hers, winning 6-2, 6-2.
 
Half of the Badgers' matches were decided in straight sets, with senior Kelsey Grambeau and sophomores Christina Zordani and Michelle Linden all fighting back from first-set losses to win in three. Senior Sara Castellano won in two sets due to an injury on her opponent.
 
In doubles, the team of Keberle and Grambeau picked up Wisconsin's lone victory, defeating the Long Beach State duo of Devarakonda and Helgo, 6-1.
 
On Saturday, the Badgers will take on Long Beach State in singles and Nevada in doubles play.
