Â
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW: MICHIGAN STATE
1. ON THE ROAD AGAIN:Â The Badgers are playing their eighth road game of the season on Friday. Wisconsin and Nebraska are the only two major conference teams to have played eight road games by Friday. UW is 11-12 away from home in Big Ten play under Gard (fourth-best win percentage in the B1G).Â
2. FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH:Â Wisconsin has one of the least experienced rosters in college basketball. The average experience level is 1.01 years. Only 20 of the 351 teams in the nation are younger. The Badgers' talented freshman class has accounted for 42.6% of the team's scoring this season, combining for 29.1Â points per game.
3. GARD IN CONTROL: With a record of 52-29 (.642), Greg Gard owns the third-highest win percentage in school history (min. 60 games) behind Hall of Famers Bo Ryan (.737) and Walter Meanwell (.712).
4. HAPP HAVING HIS WAY: All-American Ethan Happ is the only player to rank among the Big Ten's top 10 in points (sixth at 16.9 ppg), rebounds (fourth at 8.6 rpg) and assists (ninth at 3.8 apg). He is also the only major conference player averaging at least 16.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 3.0 apg.
5. DAVISON DIALED IN:Â Averaging 11.8Â points per game, guard Brad Davison is second among all Big Ten freshmen in scoring. He is also among the top freshmen in assists, 3-point percentage and free throw percentage.
ALL-TIME vs. MICHIGAN STATE
Friday's game will mark the 142nd meeting between Wisconsin and Michigan State, with the series dating back to 1922. MSU leads the all-time series, 77-64.
- UW dropped the only meeting with MSU last season, falling 84-74 in East Lansing
- Wisconsin has not won at the Breslin Center since a 68-64 overtime victory in 2004. MSU has won the last 10 meetings in East Lansing. That is by far UW's longest road losing streak, the next being three straight losses at Purdue.
- Ethan Happ has averaged 13.3 points per game in three career meetings with MSU. That includes a game-winning layup with 10 seconds remaining in UW's 77-76 win at the Kohl Center in 2016.
- Since Bo Ryan and Greg Gard came to UW in 2001-02, the Badgers are the only Big Ten team to own a winning record against Michigan State (17-14, .548). Next closest is Illinois at 13-15 (.464), followed by Maryland at 3-4 (.429), Ohio State at 14-21 (.400) and Indiana at 11-18 (.379).Â
