Wisconsin wraps up ITA’s

The Badgers dropped Sunday’s contest, 4-0

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin dipped its toes into the waters of the Big Ten Sunday evening when they played host to Michigan. The Badgers pieced together their best match of the ITA National Indoor Championships, before ultimately falling, 4-0.

Wisconsin's highlights came in doubles competition and freshman Lexi Keberle's match between No. 29 ranked Kate Fahey.

The fans showed up and brought the noise in doubles play, giving Wisconsin a boost in what turned out to be a set of tight matches.

Wisconsin's duo of Christina Zordani and Michelle Linden fell first to Michigan's pair of Chiara Lommer and Lera Patiuk, 6-2.

Freshman Lexi Keberle and sophomore Melissa Pick finished next, knotting doubles play up, by knocking off Kara Hall and Mira Ruder-Hook, 6-4.

Senior Sara Castellano and freshman MaryAnn Rompf, slotted in the one spot, battled hard, ultimately giving Michigan the point, losing to Kate Fahey and Alex Najarian, 6-4.

In singles play, Keberle grabbed the first set from Fahey, 6-4. Before having her match go unfinished after Fahey won the second set.

Senior Kelsey Grambeau also gave the Badgers a spark in singles play. Competing in the three slot, Grambeau split sets with Brienne Minor before having the match declared unfinished.

Sunday's contest was not officially counted as a conference match or Big Ten play.

Up next: Wisconsin hits the road for a five-match road trip leaking into early March. The first two matches will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada against Arizona (Feb. 17) and UNLV (Feb. 18).
