MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team, scheduled for two matches this weekend, dropped the first match of the weekend to Virginia Tech (7-0) by a score of 6-1.
The Badgers (6-5), were coming off a weekend in which they lost on to Arizona, 4-3, and had a week long break from competition. Scoring Wisconsin's sole point of the match was sophomore
Melissa Pick, defeating Katherine Butler, 6-2, 6-4.
Wisconsin failed to pick up a victory in doubles play, losing No. 1 and No. 3 singles both by a score of 6-1. No. 2 doubles of freshman
Lexi Keberle and Pick was down 4-2 before being called.
Keberle, currently ranked No. 111 by the ITA, was defeated by No. 61 Natalie Novotna, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles spot. Keberle is now 1-3 against ranked opponents on the season.
Senior
Kelsey Grambeau nearly gave Wisconsin another point, playing in the No. 4 slot for singles. Grambeau took Nika Kozarto three sets, losing the tiebreaker 10-5.
Up next: The Badgers remain in Blacksburg, Va. to compete against James Madison (6-0) on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. (CT).
