Wisconsin remains undefeated, beats Bradley, 7-0

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team is making history in 2018. After sweeping Bradley, 7-0, on Saturday in the first half of a doubleheader, the Badgers improved to 5-0, the best start in school history since 1992.
 
Freshman Lexi Keberle kept her perfect dual record intact, improving to 5-0 in singles and doubles. Keberle was the second Badger to finish in singles play, breezing through Sandra Maletin, 6-3, 6-0.
 
The Badgers got things going early, taking a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. The duo of sophomores Michelle Linden and Christina Zordani defeated Victoria Gonzalez and Alejandra de Lasa, 6-3. 
 
Securing the point was senior Kelsey Grambeau and Keberle, taking down Natalia Barbery and Maletin, 6-3.
 
Wisconsin's second point came from Zordani in the six slot, making quick work of Kinga Kovacs, 6-0, 6-1. Zordani is now undefeated in singles play in the dual season, improving to 4-0.
 
Locking up the Badgers' victory was freshman MaryAnn Rompf, defeating Natalia Barbery, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 2 position.
 
Pick and Linden, playing No. 4 and No. 5, also remained undefeated after the Bradley match, finishing back-to-back and giving Wisconsin a 6-0 lead.
 
Pick took down Gonzalez, 6-3, 6-4 on court five. Playing on court four, Linden defeated Alexa Brandt, 6-3, 6-4.
 
Rounding out play for the Badgers, and locking down the 7-0 victory, was Grambeau in the No. 3 slot. The senior took Malini Wijesinghe three sets, ultimately winning on a 13-11 tiebreaking third set.
 
Up next: Wisconsin's day continues against Green Bay in the second half of a doubleheader. The match is set for 3 p.m.

On what the team did right:
"Today we fought really hard, despite how we were playing. I think we competed really hard every point. That was really important."
 
On the doubles performance:
"Doubles went really well. I think we were aggressive and tried to come in as much as possible and take the opportunities that we had. I also think the energy was high today."
 
On what needs to happen against Green Bay:
"We need to, from the very beginning, from the very first point, we need to bring the energy. We need to compete hard and work with our bodies every point and that'll help us."
