MADISON, Wis. – It was a spoiled homecoming Sunday afternoon for the Wisconsin women's tennis team, as they hosted Michigan State, falling by a score of 6-1. Freshman
Lexi Keberle was Wisconsin's highlight, winning the team's sole point in a three-set thriller.
A native of West Bend, Wisconsin, Keberle took the first set before getting down early in the second. Fighting back from a 4-0 deficit, Keberle ended up taking the match, 6-4, 6-7, 11-9.
The Spartans (3-1 Big Ten, 12-4 overall) made quick work of the Badgers (2-3, 8-9) in doubles play, knocking off Wisconsin's one and two duos by scores of 6-2 and 6-3, respectively.
Following doubles play, Michigan State could not be slowed down, winning points two through five in straight-set matches.
Securing the Spartans' win was Sara Kuutila, knocking off freshman
MaryAnn Rompf, 6-0, 7-6.
Wisconsin's No. 6, sophomore
Michelle Linden, took her opponent three sets, dropping the marathon match, 6-1, 3-6, 14-12.
Senior
Kelsey Grambeau suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Emily Metcalf. Not too long after, junior
Sara Castellano fell to Habiba Shaker in an intense matchup, 6-4, 6-4.
Up next: The Badgers are now free from competition until Friday, April 6 when they host Penn State at 5 p.m. and April 8 when they Ohio State at Noon.
