Five Things to Know: NCAA Championships

Curtis begins play on May 18 in Stillwater, Okla.

MADISON, Wis. -- Senior Gabby Curtis qualified for the NCAA Women's Golf Championships and will begin play at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Friday. The NCAA Championships consists of 72 holes of stroke play on the individual side, with a cut made after Sunday's third round.

Here are five things to know before Friday's first round:

1.    Curtis became just the second Wisconsin women's golfer to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Championships, finishing in a tie for fourth place at the NCAA Madison Regional at University Ridge Golf Course May 7-9. Curtis joins Allie Blomquist, who tied for 18th place at the 2001 NCAA Championships.

2.    In qualifying for the NCAA Championships, Curtis tied the 54-hole school record at the regional, shooting a 209 (-7). Her 67 in the first round was a career low and the T4th was the best finish of Curtis' career (her fourth career top 10).

3.    Curtis' career scoring average is now 74.46, second only to Brooke Ferrell's 74.0 in UW history. This season, Curtis' scoring average of 72.78 is also second-best in school annals (Ferrell holds the record at 72.25 last season).

4.    By playing in the NCAA championships, Curtis (136 rounds) will break Kris Yoo's school record for rounds played (138). Curtis has played in every tournament for UW in her career.

5.    As a team, Wisconsin's season scoring average of 292.25 this year set the school record, nearly four strokes better than the 296.2 set last season.
