MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Following a cancellation due to weather versus North Dakota State, Monday's game in Milwaukee against Marquette marked the season opener for the Wisconsin women's soccer team. Led by sophomore
Lauren Rice and senior
Emily Borgmann, the badgers cruised to a 2-0 victory.
Â
Borgmann started the action on an assist from sophomore
Lauren Rice in the 48th minute, following a scoreless first half.
Â
It only took another eight minutes before Rice padded Wisconsin's lead even further, taking a give-and-go corner from junior
Payton Wesley and sending it to the top right of the net.
Â
Wisconsin outshot Marquette 16-5 and also held the corner advantage 5-1. Junior
Jordyn Bloomer, in her first career start in goal for the Badgers, logged two saves on five Marquette shots.
Â
Up next: Wisconsin returns to Madison for the team's home opener versus Florida State on Thursday, Aug. 26. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
