PHOENIX, Ariz. – The No. 12 Wisconsin men's soccer team kicked off their season on the road in Phoenix against Grand Canyon University (1-0). The Badgers (0-1) battled hot and humid conditions on the road at GCU Stadium and fell just short to the Lopes 2-1.

Andrew Akindele had an impressive college debut, tallying his first goal in Cardinal and White in the 58th minute with a laser to the upper right corner of the net off the assist from
Mitch Guitar. Akindele marked three shots on goal in 78 minutes on the pitch.
Grand Canyon came out lighting fast on its home turf, showcasing a relentless attack. GCU's Alex Radilla knocked the lid off the Badger goal in the 23rd minute off a roller in the box from Marco Alfonso. Two minutes later, the Lopes connected for their second and final goal of the contest off a goal by Calvin Kissi.
GCU led UW 16-6 in shots, and 10-6 in corners.
Up Next: Wisconsin returns home on Monday for its home opener against Hartford at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (CT).
