MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field team opened its season in style at the Badger Icebreaker Saturday afternoon, defeating Milwaukee and DePaul while accumulating 12 event wins.

Junior
Alicia Monson opened up her track season with a dominant win in the women's mile. The Amery, Wisconsin, native clocked in at 4:38.78 while her converted time of 4:36.05 paces the NCAA. Sophomore
Alissa Niggemann was second in 4:45.65 and senior
Amy Davis placed third with a time of 4:48.10 as the duo rank No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, in the country.Â
Senior
Banke Oginni earned two key wins for the Badgers on Saturday, winning the weight throw with a toss of 71 feet, 1 1/2 inches before prevailing with a win in the shot put with a mark of 52-7 1/4. Oginni ranks third in the country in the weight throw and No. 9 in the shot put.Â
Most notably, junior
Gabby DesRosiers threw down a facility record performance in the 300 meters, crossing the line in 39.11 seconds. Senior
Ebony McClendon and sophomore Hannah Wilson helped the Badgers go 1-2-3 in the event with times of 39.48 and 41.12, respectively.

Wisconsin also swept the top-three places in the 800 meters. Sophomore
Bianca Stubler took first place with a time of 2:16.75. Just behind Stubler was freshman
Cailyn Biegalski, who finished in 2:20.90. Rounding out the top three was senior
Elli Daniels, who clocked in at 2:21.75.

Making her collegiate debut, true freshman
Armoni Brown picked up another win for Wisconsin in the long jump. Brown flew 18-6 1/2 in her last attempt for her first victory as a Badger.
Wisconsin won the meet with 267 points while Milwaukee (139.5) took second and DePaul (101.5) placed third.

"It felt really good. It's been a year since I've been on an indoor track so I'm looking forward to this season. I'm just excited to keep running and go after that Big Ten championship. It was just an overall good day."
