Badgers head to Bloomington for two-day competition
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Coming off of a successful weekend at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, the Wisconsin men's track and field team will hit the road once again and head to Bloomington, Indiana for the Indiana Relays.
Hosted by Indiana University, the Indiana Relays are scheduled to begin on Friday, January 25 with the track events at 4:00 p.m. (CT) and the field events to follow at 4:35 p.m. (CT). The meet will continue on Saturday, January 26 with the track events at 8 a.m. (CT) and the field events to follow at 8:35 a.m. (CT).

1. HACKER IS BACK ON THE TRACK: Redshirt junior Olin Hacker led the way for UW at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational, posting a personal best time of 4 minutes, 1.82 seconds in the premier mile race. The Madison, Wisconsin, native's time currently ranks No. 8 overall in the NCAA and No. 3 in the Big Ten Conference.
2. TOP FIVE BADGERS: Hacker isn't the only Wisconsin athlete to currently hold a top-five ranking in the Big Ten. Sophomore Austin Rendon pulled off a big personal best of 1:52.01 in the premier 800 meters race and was one of three athletes to best the previous meet record in the event. Rendon's time currently ties for No. 4 in the conference.
In addition to Hacker and Rendon, two Wisconsin field athletes currently hold top-five marks in the Big Ten. Junior Rashid Coulibaly's personal best clearance of 17-2 3/4 in the pole vault currently ranks No. 3 overall while redshirt junior Tucker Wedig holds the No. 5 mark in the conference in the weight throw with a mark of 66-4 1/2 in the event.
3. MIDDLE DISTANCE MAGIC: Wisconsin's middle distance athletes shone on the track at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. In addition to Austin Rendon's personal best performance in the premier 800 meters, Hudson Kugel also impressed, finishing just fractions of a second behind Rendon to take fourth. Freshman Rhys Koch also competed in the in the 800 meters, finishing third overall with a time of 1:54.00, becoming one of four athletes to break the previous meet record.
4. RELAY READY: Wisconsin ran three 4x400 relay squads at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in preparation for future competitions. Most notably, the relay team of Stacey Boyd II, Eric Brown, Robby Hatch and Ryan Dundun competed in the premier 4x400 relay race and finished with an overall time of 3:15.74.
5. UP NEXT: Following the conclusion of the Indiana Relays, the Wisconsin track and field team will send athletes to the Power Five Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Athletes competing in Ann Arbor will get a preview of the Big Ten Indoor Championships, as the University of Michigan is set to host the championships in late February.
