MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's basketball team is back in the Kohl Center for a two-game home stand beginning with a re-match versus Penn State on Thursday night. The game tips off at 7 p.m.
1. LAST TIME OUT: Despite leading after the first quarter, the Badgers weren't able to hold on to the advantage, falling at Northwestern, 72-46, on Sunday afternoon. NU found their rhythm late in the first quarter and early in the second quarter while holding UW to just two points in the second quarter.
2. DOUBLE FIGURES: Senior Marsha Howard has scored in double figures in 14 games this season while also grabbing double-figure boards in 10 games. The 6-foot forward has recorded seven double-doubles on this season, which ties for fourth in the Big Ten.
3. NATIONALLY RANKED: Wisconsin ranks third in the nation and first in the Big Ten in total rebounds, tallying 846 on the year. The Badgers also rank 11th nationally in boards per game (44.72) and 13th in blocked shots with 101 on the year. Both stats rank second in the Big Ten.
4. AGAINST PENN STATE: Earlier this month, UW took on Penn State at University Park, but fell in a hard fought battle, 71-64. Penn State came out strong in the fourth quarter and went on an 11-4 run. A huge 3-pointer by junior Suzanne Gilreath at the 2:32 mark, would bring UW within four points of PSU, but that was as close as it would get. The Lady Lions made 10 free throws down the stretch to grab the 71-64 win.PSU has won three-straight meetings with UW and lead the all-time series 32-14 over Wisconsin.
5. SCOUTING THE LADY LIONS: Penn State (9-9, 2-5 BIG) is on a two-game losing streak after first dropping an overtime heartbreaker to Ohio State (76-71) and most recently falling to No. 9 Maryland (79-67). Senior Teniya Page led the Lady Lions in points in both contests scoring 19 and 20 points, respectively.
