Wisconsin gets first look at major Big Ten competition
MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's tennis team continues to progress through its fall season as they travel to East Lansing this weekend to participate in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The tournament will last from Oct. 17 – Oct. 22.
1. SMU FALL INVITE REVIEW: Last weekend, the Badgers traveled to Moraga, California to partake in the SMU Fall Invite. After two weeks of tweaking small things that came up during their first fall season tournament, the Badgers played with higher intensity and recorded even more wins. Freshman Charmaine Seah led the way for Wisconsin with a 3-1 singles record.
2. ITA CHAMPIONSHIPS REVIEW: After being selected to compete in the ITA All-American Championship pre-qualifying, Antonela Stoica was the lone representative for the Badgers in Tulsa. Stoica won her first two matches, advancing in the tournament, but fell on day two to her opponent from LSU.
3. NEW OUTDOOR FACILITIES: While the Wisconsin winter is not far out, both the badger men's and women's tennis teams are enjoying the comfort of their newly renovated outdoor tennis stadiums. The teams have been training here since it opened earlier this year. Read more about the latest advancements in Wisconsin tennis here.
4. SCOUTING ITA REGIONALS: This weekend's tournament will be held in East Lansing, Michigan and it will be some of the first exposure to the Big Ten teams this year. Conference teams present include Northwestern, Michigan and Illinois, three of the top teams in the conference last year.
