MADISON, Wis. -- Freshman forward
Owen Lindmark put home a rebound with 6.1 seconds left in regulation to give the No. 6 Badger men's hockey team (4-2-0, 0-0-0 Big Ten) a 4-3 victory over No. 13 Clarkson (3-2-1, 0-0-0 ECAC) on Saturday at the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin's freshmen firepower has been something special to see so far this season and they were on full display Saturday night. Before Lindmark put in the game-winner in off of a
Roman Ahcan rebound, freshmen forward
Cole Caufield netted his seventh goal of the season a part of Wisconsin's big second period.
The Badgers scored three goals in the second including Caufield's, to grab a 3-0 lead. The remaining two came off the sticks of Ahcan and
K'Andre Miller. Ahcan also assisted on all three of the other Wisconsin goals bringing his point total to four on the night.
Clarkson surged back, scoring 11 seconds after Miller in the second period and adding two more in the third period, including a goal by Devin Brosseau with only 1:12 left to play in the game after the Golden Knights pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker.Â
Notes to know:
- Sophomore goalie Daniel Lebedeff tied his season high number of saves, notching 31 in net for Wisconsin.
- Ahcan's four points set a new career high for the sophomore forward.
- Tonight's game winner marked Lindmark's second of the season.
- Caufield's seventh goal this season leads the country.
Straight from the rink:
Head Coach Tony Granato:
"Roman saw an opportunity. He knew the time on the clock. He knew it was the right time to try and get a one-on-one. He beat him. I love the way that Owen [Lindmark] followed the play up. Sometimes when it's late in the game like that too, and you're in a position, you play cautious and stay on your heals. He easily could've stayed in the neutral zone thinking about defending, but he got up and they were able to bury the rebound. Great play."
Freshman forward Owen Lindmark:
"I think it was a great bounce-back effort. We had them on their heals the whole game and towards the end they really stuck it to us. The desire to not give up by our team, I think was the biggest thing. It was also shown last Saturday against Duluth. Our willingness to bend but not break. That's going to be really key for us going forward just to keep sticking with that mindset to win games."
Sophomore forward Roman Ahcan:
"Before the game, we talked about bouncing back after scoring on them. I think we did a really good job tonight. After they got those two goals, we stayed to our game plan and stuck with it, and that's what got us our win tonight."
Freshman forward Cole Caufield:
"It's a big win for us. You need to give them credit. They played a full 60-minutes, but we battled back. Roman had a great game and Owen finished it. Going forward, it's a big momentum builder that we can stay in games and be confident in ourselves. There's a lot to learn from. We just obviously played a really good team and how they can play a full 60 minutes, that is something that we need to do and grow at moving forward."
