Badgers have first home dual of the season
MADISON, Wis. – After being on the road for the first month of the season, the fourth-ranked Wisconsin wrestling team is finally back at the Field House for their first home dual of the season. The Badges will face off against the Kent State Golden Flashes on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Fans can stream the match live on BTN+ ($) and follow along on Twitter with @BadgerWrestling. The match will also be broadcast live by 96.7FM The Zone.
1. Back in MACtion: Coming out of the MAC, Kent State heads to the UW Field House to compete against the Badgers for only the second time in program history. Last year, the Badgers took the victory, 37-13, featuring five pins and two major decisions by UW.
2. Sock Toss! The Badgers host their first annual Sock Toss during the dual. Fans are encouraged to purchase new and packaged socks to toss onto the mat during a brief intermission. All socks will be donated to local kids in need of socks this winter through Lussier Community Education Center.
3. No rest for the WICKed: Wisconsin's 165-pounder, No. 3 Evan Wick is signed up to compete at the 2019 Senior Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas on Dec. 20-22. Wick will compete at 74kg in Freestyle for a chance to compete at the USA Olympic Team Trials in April.
4. Freshies first home meet: After lifting their redshirts at the Cougar Clash, freshmen Eric Barnett and Peter Christensen are potentially looking at starting their first dual meet at home. Barnett, the freshman out of Hortonville, took first place in the 125-pound weight class at the Cougar Clash while Christensen ended the tournament in sixth place.
5. Marquee Matchup: The match to watch against Kent State is at 133 pounds. Wisconsin's No. 2 Seth Gross will go against No. 22 Tim Rooney. The two have never faced each other before and is the lone ranked matchup of the dual.
