1. WEEKEND RECAP: From the Iowa State Classic, to the Millrose Games, to the Dick Hendricks' Invitational, the Badgers recorded fifteen personal bests across all three meets that student-athletes competed at last weekend.
Olin Hacker earned a big win in the invitational section of the 3,000 meters in Ames, crossing the line in a personal best time of 7 minutes, 53.88 seconds, which ranks No. 9 in program history. Redshirt junior
Tucker Wedig also solidified his spot in the record books after earning a personal best mark in the weight throw. The Belmont, Wis., native launched the weight a distance of 68-0 1/4, which ranks No. 4 in program history and currently checks in at No. 18 in the NCAA.
2. MILLROSE GAMES: Last Saturday was a record-setting day for Wisconsin's
Morgan McDonald and Olli Hoare, who both became Big Ten Conference record-holders at the prestigious Millrose Games at the Armory Track. McDonald put forth a huge effort in the Dr. Sander Men's 3,000 Meter race, finishing runner-up with a personal best time of 7:42.76. That time currently ranks No. 2 in the NCAA, No. 3 in the world this year and tenth in Australian history.
Hoare put up a phenomenal performance of his own in the famed Wanamaker Mile, finishing with a personal best and NCAA-leading time of 3:54.83. The junior's time also marks the sixth-fastest mile time in NCAA history and the ninth-fastest time in the world this year. Both Hoare and McDonald earned Big Ten Indoor Track Athlete of the Week accolades for their performances, the conference announced Wednesday.
3. HOME, SWEET HOME: Wisconsin returns home to The Shell to host the last home meet of the indoor season. The Badgers will face UNI, Marquette and Illinois State in Friday's meet. This marks the first time since 2017 that UW has hosted two indoor meets in the same season.
4. DMR TAKES NOTRE DAME: UW will also be sending a men's and women's distance medley relay squad to the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday. The quartet of
Stacey Boyd II,
Eric Brown, Olli Hoare and
Morgan McDonald will make the trek to Notre Dame to compete in the event. At last year's Alex Wilson Invitational, Wisconsin's DMR team broke the school record and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships with their time of 9:27.72.
5. BIG TENS AND BEYOND: Following the Red and White Classic and the Alex Wilson Invitational, the Badgers will officially enter championship season, starting with the Big Ten Indoor Championships, which are scheduled to run through Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23. This year's Big Ten championships will be hosted by the University of Michigan and will take place at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
