Wisconsin hits the road to take on No. 1 Ohio State and No. 37 Penn State
MADISON, Wis. – One of the toughest weekend's yet lies ahead for the Wisconsin men's tennis team as UW heads to No. 1 Ohio State and No. 47 Penn State this weekend. The Badgers head into both matches as the underdog and hope to use that fighter's mentality to pick up a huge upset after two heartbreaking road losses a weekend ago.
1. Westerman's wing: Head coach Danny Westerman previews the Badgers' weekend ahead:
"We are looking forward to bouncing back after a tough road loss at Iowa. We have two great opportunities this weekend. Not many teams in any sport get a chance to play the current No. 1 team in the country— which we have a chance to do against Ohio State.
"Penn State is having a great year so far, which will prove to be another great test. This is why our guys came to Wisconsin. To play in the Big Ten. To get those chances to play against the nation's best. I can't wait to see how we respond on the road in two tough environments!"
2. Badgering the Buckeyes: Wisconsin faces off against the ITA Indoor National Champions, Ohio State, on Friday night at 6 p.m. (CT) in Columbus, Ohio. It's going to be no easy task to take down the No. 1-ranked Buckeyes on their home turf. Ohio State is 17-2 on the year, undefeated at home and undefeated in the Big Ten Conference. Ohio State is coming off a win over the No. 16 Michigan Wolverines, 6-1.
Wisconsin is 32-49 in school history against Ohio State, including a 12-32-1 record in Columbus. The Badgers look to chip away at the deficit en route to their first road win of the season.
3. Taming the Lions: Wisconsin's match against Penn State on Sunday at Noon in University Park will be a huge one. The Nittany Lions check in at No. 37 in the latest ITA rankings. It will be an invaluable opportunity for Wisconsin to pick up a much-needed win over a ranked opponent. The Badgers have now 0-4 against ranked opponents, three of which have come by a 4-3 decision.
Wisconsin is 21-9 all-time against Penn State. The Badgers are 7-7 on the road and will seek to add another tally in the win department to lead the Nittany Lions in the record book at University Park.
