MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team travels to State College for a three-game series with Penn State on Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and wrapping up on Sunday with a showdown that will be broadcast by the Big Ten Network at 11 a.m.
1. THE LAST TIME: Wisconsin played its second-to-last non-conference series on Tuesday night, taking down the Northern Iowa Panthers, 6-1 and 11-2. Winners of five-straight non-conference contests, the Badgers hit three homers in a game for the sixth time the season against the Panthers and outhit them 20-10 in two games.
2. GO TJ, THAT'S MY TJ: Sophomore Taylor Johnson is really heating up in the last five contests, hitting .647 with four extra-base hits, including three home runs. She's had a team-leading nine runs and five RBI in the last five games. Overall, she's had nine multi-hit games and is currently holding down a 13-game hitting streak.
3. B1G Standings: Every school has one series under its belt now and four schools (Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan and Ohio State) swept their opening conference series. Penn State went 2-1 against Michigan State, dropping the first game of the series but bouncing back with two wins to clinch the series. Wisconsin took the first game against Illinois but dropped the next two in tight contests. .
4. THE LOWDOWN ON THE NITTANY LIONS: Penn State is 16-14 overall and is 1-1 in home games after splitting with Robert Morris on March 20. The Nittany Lions are coming off winning their first B1G series since the 2017 season after defeating MSU twice. PSU has hit 20 home runs through the first 30 games, including five multi-homer games, led by Ally Kurland, Chelsea Bisi and Toni Polk with four dingers each.
5. WE'VE GOT HISTORY: Penn State leads the all-time series with Wisconsin 29-18 overall and 16-5 in State College/University Park. The Badgers have been dominant in the last eight years, going 7-3 in the last 10 matchups. Most recently in State College, UW swept the Nittany Lions in 2014.
