First round matches set for the Badgers
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Big Ten released finalized brackets for all weight classes for this weekend's Big Ten Championships, and the first round matchups for the Badgers are all set.
Sophomore Ethan Rotondo (13-7) will face Minnesota's Sean Russell (22-3) in the first round at 125 pounds.
At 133 pounds, senior Jens Lantz (12-13) will have a rematch against Minnesota's Ethan Lizak (23-4). Lantz narrowly lost to Lizak by a 5-4 decision in dual action earlier this year.
Junior Tristan Moran (20-6) also has a rematch in the first round at 141 pounds, as he faces Maryland's Danny Bertoni (16-13) in the first round. Moran defeated Bertoni with a 14-4 major decision when the two faced for the first time this season.
Another first round matchup, and another rematch, this time for junior Cole Martin (16-9) at 149 pounds, facing Christian Kanzler (4-12) of Illinois. Martin defeated Kanzler by a 7-1 decision back in February.
Freshman Garrett Model (8-11) will have a stiff test in the first round at 157 pounds, facing Michigan's Alec Pantaleo (14-6).
Wisconsin's highest seeded wrestler, sophomore Evan Wick (25-2) at 165 pounds, will have a new opponent as he faces Cole Wysocki (9-19) of Purdue.
Senior Ryan Christensen (15-6) missed Wisconsin's dual against Iowa due to injury, but will have a chance in the first round at 174 pounds to face Iowa's Mitch Bowman (7-5).
At 184 pounds, junior Mason Reinhardt (19-10) will also face an unfamiliar foe, competing against Norman Conley (19-13) of Indiana.
Sophomore Beau Breske (10-7) will take on Michigan's Jackson Striggow (13-8) in the first round at 197 pounds.
And rounding out the starting lineup for the Badgers at heavyweight, freshman Trent Hillger (20-4) received a bye through the first round, and will face the winner of Ohio State's Chase Singletary (18-5) and Indiana's Fletcher Miller (9-6).
