Menz brings the heat in first game of B1G/ACC Challenge

Badgers shutout the Cardinals
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Wisconsin softball team (5-1) started the BIG/ACC Challenge with a bang, by shutting out Louisville (1-6) in a 2-0 win.
UW had a solid second inning where they took the 2-0 lead and ran with it. It started with a single to left field from Stephanie Lombardo where Alli Clark came in to pinch run. Morgan Kummer was up to bat next and hit her own single to right field.
Fiona Girardot hit a ground ball that advanced Clark to third and got her on-base, with Kummer taken out on second. The Badgers scored their first run when Jolie Fish squeezed Clark home off a bunt and reached first.
The top of the second inning continued with an RBI from Lauren Foster that extended Wisconsin's lead to 2-0 when Girardot scored.
Taylor Johnson singled to center field in the beginning of the third but was left on base after a double play by the Cardinals.
The Badgers would return the favor on defense when a ground ball from the Cardinals went to third, and runners were thrown out on second and first to end the third inning.
Kaitlyn Menz pitched for all seven innings of the game and held Louisville to zero runs and three hits, as well as recording five strikeouts.
Notes to know:
The Badgers will play two games tomorrow in the B1G/ACC Challenge. The first game will be a second meeting against Lousiville at 11:30 a.m. CT, followed by No. 25 North Carolina at 2:00 p.m. CT.

- Kaitlyn Menz threw her fourth win of the season, with 53 strikes on 76 pitches. Nobody has scored on Menz yet this season.
- Wisconsin hitters spread the wealth tonight with five different players getting a hit – Taylor Johnson, Stephanie Lombardo, Morgan Kummer, Jolie Fish and Ally Miklesh.
