Konwent leads Badgers to grand win over the Tar Heels

UW takes down No. 25 North Carolina in last day of B1G/ACC Challenge

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After going 0-2 on Saturday of the B1G/ACC Challenge, the Wisconsin softball team (6-3) put those losses behind them and won in convincing fashion in a 8-3 game against No. 25 North Carolina in their home stadium.

Kayla Konwent capitalized on a pivotal inning for the Badgers in the bottom of the sixth. With bases loaded she sent one out and over center field for a grand slam giving Wisconsin a 8-3 lead over North Carolina.

Ally Miklesh, Jolie Fish and Stephanie Lombardo were sent home from Konwent's hit and put her in good position to score.

The bottom of the sixth started with a single that snuck past shortstop from Fiona Girardot. Morgan Kummer was walked following that which put runners on first and second.

A big swing down the third baseline from Stephanie Lombardo meant bases loaded for UW who trailed UNC 2-3 at the time. Jordan Little was walked and all runners on base advanced, including a score from Girardot to tie the game at three.

Jolie Fish was next at bat and did not disappoint. Her RBI single allowed for the Badgers to take a 4-3 lead. The inning ended when Konwent came up to bat and hit her grand slam. No other points would be scored by either team for the remainder of the game.

The other two runs of the game came from two single homers in the first inning, first from Konwent and second from Caroline Hedgcock, who tallied her second one of the season.

Kaitlyn Menz pitched all seven innings for Wisconsin and was able to hold them in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
