Badgers drop battle to No. 7 Maryland

Beverly, Pospisilova pace Wisconsin in scoring
MADISON, WIS. - Wisconsin played host to No. 7 Maryland on Wednesday night at the Kohl Center in the second-to-last home game of the regular season. The visiting Terrapins felled the Badgers, 85-56. Wisconsin's Niya Beverley and Julie Pospisilova scored 10 points a piece to lead the team and giving Pospisilova her fourth game of the season scoring double-digits.
Abby Laszewski led the Badgers defensively with seven rebounds and six blocks. Currently fourth overall in the UW history books for three-pointers made, teammate Suzanne Gilreath improved her tally on Wednesday with two against the Terps to climb to 210 total.
Halftime saw the Badgers re-energized and the returned with a 10-2 run late in the game. "I was really proud of our kids in the second half," said head coach Jonathan Tsipis. "I thought we came out, I thought the kids just played on their toes and attacked.
"No matter if it was a minute in, or the last 30 seconds, our group was together and cheering for each other up off the bench. I thought they fought until the horn went off."
Among other notables, Kendra Van Leeuwen started in her 118th game with Wisconsin. She is in fourth place all-time for Badgers with the most starts.
Maryland was led by Kaila Charles with 19 points. Four other players scored double-digits with Shakira Austin and Ashley Owusu putting up 12 and Taylor Mikesell and Stephanie Jones with 11. Jones led the team in rebounds with nine.
Wisconsin will stay home as the team hosts No. 18 Northwestern on Saturday at 11 a.m.
