Wisconsin to face VCU and William & Mary
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team will travel to Virginia this weekend to take on VCU Friday and William & Mary Sunday. Here are five quick things you should know before tuning in.
1. MOVIN' UP: For the first time this season, the Badgers have moved into the Top 25 ITA rankings coming in at No. 21 entering week six. This puts Wisconsin only trailing two Big Ten teams in Ohio State and Michigan ranked at No. 6 and No. 16 respectively.
2. ON THE ROAD AGAIN: This weekend will mark the beginning of a month-long road stand for the Badgers. After this weekend's road trip to Virginia, Wisconsin will kick off Big Ten play in Minnesota March 7. The Badgers will end their traveling at UC Santa Barbara March 13 before returning home against Maryland March 20. Wisconsin has won two of its six matches this season away from Madison.
3. SCOUTING VCU: The VCU Rams sit 5-3 on the season overall facing two ranked opponents already this year. The Rams beat No. 48 East Carolina, 5-1, and dropped a match to No. 25 Syracuse, 5-2. Their other two losses come against Georgia State and Penn State.
VCU boasts a reigning ITA First Team All-American from last season in the No. 1 singles spot with Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado. She is matched with freshman Gabriela Ana-Maria Davidescu who was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after defeating Duquesne and Maryland earlier in the season.
4. SCOUTING WILLIAM & MARY: The 4-2 William & Mary Tribe enter the weekend ready to face two ranked team in No. 21 Wisconsin and No. 48 East Carolina. William & Mary will take on the Pirates the day prior to facing off against the Badgers. The Tribe only boast one singles player with a winning record in sophomore Mila Saric.
