IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Wisconsin women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the 2020 Big Ten Championships on Saturday, finishing in fifth place with a final score of 734.
Senior standout
Beata Nelson led the Badgers all week long, finishing with six medals total, including four gold, one silver and one bronze. Nelson won her third-straight title in both the 100 and 200 back and her second consecutive 200 IM title, while also contributing to a gold in the 800 free relay, silver in the 400 medley relay and bronze in the 400 free relay.
Joining Nelson in both medal-winning freestyle relays were sophomores
Lillie Hosack and
Alana Palmer and fellow senior
Megan Doty, while junior
Kelsi Artim replaced Doty among those names in the second-place 400 medley relay.
Lillie Hosack put together an outstanding showing at the championships, finishing with three medals – one gold, one silver and one bronze – as a part of three relay teams, as well as a fifth-place finish as a part of the 200 free relay squad. Individually, Hosack placed fourth in both the 200 IM and 100 free and 10
th in the 200 free, setting multiple new personal-best times.
Nelson, Doty, Hosack and Palmer all received first-team All-Big Ten honors, while Artim earned a second-team spot.
Junior
Madison Waechter held down the distance swims for the Badgers as she blew away her previous best time in the 1650 free, dropping nearly 14 seconds in a seventh-place 16:14.78 swim.
Sophomore
Tereza Vithoulkas earned points for Wisconsin from the platform, as her NCAA qualifying score of 263.65 landed her in fifth place.
