
Badgers host first home event of season

Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska visit Nielsen
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team returns to Nielsen Tennis Stadium to host its Wisconsin Invitational, beginning Friday and running through Sunday. Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska are set to visit for individual play in singles and doubles competition.
Badgers Back Home: The Badgers will compete at Nielsen Tennis Stadium for the first time in nearly nine months after canceling their 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans can follow the team on Twitter (@BadgerWTennis) and Facebook (@wisconsinwomenstennis), as well as online at UWBadgers.com for updates throughout the event. Live streaming video of most courts will also be available throughout the event.
Tournament Time: Throughout the three-day event, each player on Wisconsin's roster will have the chance to play singles and doubles matches in a round-robin format. In the individual play format, team results will not be kept. The action is set to begin at 10 a.m. CT on Friday with Iowa and Nebraska facing off in singles. The Badgers will begin their weekend at 1 p.m. on Friday playing doubles against Iowa followed by singles play against Nebraska at 1:45 p.m. Start times will be posted daily on Twitter and Facebook.
Kelcy in Command: Kelcy McKenna is in her fifth season as head coach of the Badgers. Last season, Kelcy led the Badgers to a second-place finish in the Big Ten with a 9-2 record, which qualified them to compete in the 2019 NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005.
Top Returners: Following the ITA Kickoff, senior Anna Makarova and sophomore Xinyu Cai will be players to watch for the Badgers. Makaorva has a career record of 32-19 and went unbeaten in singles play at the ITA Kickoff weekend. Cai also went unbeaten in singles play at the ITA Kickoff and posted a 9-3 record in her first year at Wisconsin.
First Time at Nielsen: Freshmen Jordana Ossa and Nastya Semenovski will compete at Nielsen Tennis Stadium for the first time in their collegiate career. Miami native, Ossa has been playing tennis since she was five years old and has competed in the ITF Junior Tournaments in 4 Boca Raton, J4 Aruba and J3 Santo Domingo and won Nationals in 2020. Semenovski, who hails from Brookline, Massachusetts, competed in the 2019 Thoreau Open and was a competitive latin dancer alongside playing tennis in high school.
