Badgers finish with twelve singles victories, five wins in doubles

Box Score Madison, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's tennis team capped its first home event on Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, finishing with a total of 12 singles wins and five doubles victories.
 
Three Badgers went unbeaten in singles over the course of the three-day, round-robin event in Madison, during which Wisconsin faced off against Big Ten opponents from Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska.
 
Freshman Nastsaya Semenovski and junior Antonela Stoica each defeated their Iowa opponents on Sunday in straight sets to finish the weekend with unblemished 3-0 records.
 
Junior Ava Markham also went unbeaten in singles, winning both her matches on Friday and Saturday against Nebraska's Isa Gallego and Minnesota's Zeyneb Sarioglan.
 
Looking back on doubles, the Badgers clinched both their matches on Sunday. Senior Ana Makarova and Stoica were the first pair to bring home a win for Wisconsin. Xinyu Cai and rookie Nastya Semenovski finished out the effort after winning their tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5).
 
Up Next:
Wisconsin is scheduled to host Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 14th for its first official Big Ten match of the season.

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's tennis team had a strong second day of competition at the Wisconsin Invitational on Saturday, sweeping five of its six singles matches against Minnesota and Iowa, as well as claiming two doubles wins against Nebraska.
 
The Badgers crushed their singles matches at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, as six of UW's seven competitor's locked in straight-set wins.
 
Freshman Jordana Ossa was the first Badger to defeat her Minnesota opponent, 6-1, 6-1, followed by Ava Markham, Xinyu Cai, Charmaine Seah, and Antonela Stoica. Freshman Nastasya Semenovski rounded out the effort by defeating Iowa's Ashleigh Jacobs, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Looking back on doubles, two Badger duos made comebacks to defeat the Huskers. Senior Anna Makarova and Stoica were the first pair to win, defeating  Kristina Novak and Viven Sandberg, 7-5. Cai and Markham were the second pair to win and defeated Nebraska's Claire Reifeis and Isabelle Gallego after a tiebreaker, 7-6(7-1).
