MADISON, Wis. -- The 11th-ranked Wisconsin men's cross country heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to compete in their 57th overall NCAA Championship and 46th in the past 48 years. The men's 10,000-meter race is set to take flight at 12:40 p.m. on Monday live on ESPNU.
1. HUNGRY FOR ANOTHER TITLE The Badger men will be fighting to claim their first NCAA title since 2011 and their second title this year after winning their 51st Big Ten Championship in January. 2. LAST YEAR IN THE NCAAS: The last time Wisconsin raced at NCAAs was in November 2019, where it finished 18th overall. Former Badger Olli Hoare led the way, placing in 18th in 31 minutes, 8.2 seconds. Olin Hacker and Shuaib Aljabaly also helped the successful effort, finishing second and third, respectively, for the Badgers.
3. MIXING THE OLD WITH THE NEW: The Badger squad racing on Monday includes a mix of several experienced runners as well as some newcomers that are coming off a Big Ten Championship win. Hacker, Aljabaly, Seth Hirsch, and Jackson Sharp are looking to top their performance from last year's NCAA championship while Rowen Ellenberg, who led the Badgers to their 51st Big Ten title, will be making his first NCAA appearance along with newcomers Charlie Wheeler and Bob Liking, who also aided in the victorious Big Ten efforts.
4. MICK AT THE HELM: Reigning Big Ten Coach of the Year Mick Byrne is looking to lead the Badgers to their sixth NCAA title. Byrne led the Badgers to their most recent NCAA title in 2011 where alumni and Olympian Mohammad Ahmed led the way for Wisconsin with a fifth-place finish.
