EAST LANSING, Michigan – The Wisconsin softball team split its doubleheader on Saturday with Michigan State, earning a 4-2 eight-inning win in the first game before falling 2-1 in the finale at Secchia Stadium.
Game One
The Badgers broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning when
Gabby Altobelli hit a triple to right-center field that drove in
Lauren Foster from second.

Michigan State responded in the bottom of the fourth by loading the bases with one out. Marissa Trivelpiece then walked to drive in the Spartan's first run on the day. The Spartans then took a 2-1 lead on a fielder's choice to second that scored a run.

In the top of the fifth,
Ally Miklesh hit the Badger's second triple of the day and drove
Lauren Foster home from second to tie the game at 2-2.

After scoreless sixth and seventh innings, the Badgers regained the lead in the top of the eighth. Altobelli walked to lead off the inning. She was later driven home by an RBI single from
Morgan Kummer Kummer later scored to make it a 4-2 game thanks to a
Peyton Bannon double.

Three Badgers saw time in the circle as
Tessa Magnanimo earned the start, going the first two innings before
Ava Justman came in and pitched 1 1/3 innings. Senior
Haley Hestekin finished the game and earned the win, going 4 2/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Game Two
Michigan State started off the scoring in the bottom of the first as Kennedy Wyllie hit an RBI single. An inning later Jenae Wash singled to center driving in the Spartan's second run allowing them to take a 2-0 lead.Â
After a scoreless third inning, the Badger offense put two runners on base with one out in the top of the fourth inning.
Morgan Kummer hit a single to right field that drove in
Peyton Bannon from third, but
Alyssa McClelland was thrown out trying to score from second.

UW was able to get base runners on in the fifth and seventh innings, but were unable to tie the game and MSU earned the 2-1 win.

Haley Hestekin went four innings for UW, giving up only two runs before
Maddie Schwartz pitched the final two innings.

Batting Cleanup
- UW's extra-inning win was its second such victory of the season.
