MADISON, Wis. — Looking to build off of its first Big Ten Conference win of the season over Rutgers last Sunday, the Wisconsin women's basketball team (4-12, 1-5 B1G) stays on the road to take on No. 8 Michigan (15-2, 6-1) on Thursday. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.CT from the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the game available to stream on BTN+.
1. B1G ROAD WIN: Last Sunday, the Badgers traveled to Piscataway, New Jersey, to take on Rutgers in a game where both teams were in search of their first Big Ten win. It was UW's first Big Ten road win since defeating Illinois, 73-64, on Feb. 2, 2020, and also the first time the Badgers have won at Rutgers. Wisconsin also trailed by as many as 12 points in the first quarter, tying for the seventh-biggest comeback win in program history.
2. TAKE THAT BALL AWAY: The Badgers recorded a season-high 15 steals against the Scarlet Knights on Sunday, forcing an opponent season-high 25 turnovers. Sophomore Halle Douglass led all players with a career-high five steals while Sydney Hilliard and Julie Pospisilova both added three takeaways.
3. MOST IMPROVED PLAYER:Â Junior guard Julie Pospisilova continues to be one of the Big Ten's most improved players so far this season. Scoring double-digits in every game she has played, extending the streak with 14 points against Rutgers. The junior currently sits 15th overall in scoring in the Big Ten and serves as the No. 1 scorer for the Badgers averaging 14.6 points per game. Pospisilova and Sydney Hilliard account for 47% of the Badgers' scoring this season as Hilliard adds 13.0 points per game.
4. LAST TIME OUT: Thursday will mark the second time this season that the Badgers and the Wolverines have faced-off with Wisconsin falling to Michigan, 93-81, at the Kohl Center on Dec. 9. Despite the loss, the Badgers put up one of their best offensive performances against the Wolverines with season high 81 points. Pospisilova served as the leading scorer for Wisconsin as she put up 21 points, shooting 3-6 from three-point range. Freshman Krystyna Ellew was another Badger who found success on offense, finishing with 18 points, including two triples and shooting 8-8 from the free-throw line.Â
5. SCOUTING MICHIGAN: Michigan is back home at Crisler Center for the first time since Jan. 9 to kick off a two-game homestand. U-M is 8-0 at home this season, outscoring opponents by more than 20 points per game (77.9 ppg to 56.6 ppg). U-M has three players in double-figure scoring at home in Naz Hillmon (23 ppg, up from her season average of 19.4 ppg), Leigha Brown (15.3 ppg on 60.8 percent shooting) and Emily Kiser (11.1 ppg, up from her season average of 10.3 ppg).
Michigan is off to a 15-2 start, tying the best mark in program history through 17 games, including a 69-49 rout of No. 8 Maryland last Sunday. The 2012-13 squad also started 15-2 through 17 games on the strength of a 10-game winning streak after a couple of early-season losses. The 2012-13 season was the first in Ann Arbor for head coach Kim Barnes Arico.
