Women’s cross country team competes in 5K race in Champaign

MADISON, Wis. –The Wisconsin women's cross country team continues its season Friday afternoon by traveling to Champaign for the Illinois Open following an impressive team outing at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational. The women's 5K race will begin at 3:00 p.m. at UI Arboretum.

TEAM PERFORMANCE: Last weekend, the Badgers hosted the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational presented by Under Armour, claiming a 14th-place finish among some of the best teams in the nation. UW was led by redshirt junior Shea Ruhly running the 6k course in 20 minutes, 33.12 seconds, a new personal best. Ten seconds separated two other Badgers who led the team, Samantha Stieve and Victoria Heiligenthal, who covered the course in 20 minutes 48.7 seconds and 20 minutes 54.3 seconds, respectively.
IN THE RANKS: After their performance, last weekend, the UW women's cross country team has jumped from being ranked No. 28 in the country to now earning a No. 17 ranking in this week's USTFCCCA national poll.
BADGERS TO WATCH: Back competing for the Badgers this weekend is redshirt senior Peyton Sippy, the third Badger to cross the finish line in the B race of the Nuttycombe Invitational, covering the course in 21 minutes and 36.6 seconds. Sophomore Maggie Munson will also be competing for UW, Munson followed right behind Sippy at the Nuttycombe Invitational, running the 6K course in 21 minutes 42.2 seconds.
