Rivalry Renewed: Badgers top Marquette

Hepburn leads Wisconsin in rivalry road win

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's basketball team earned itself a rivalry road win over Marquette with an 80-77 overtime victory in Milwaukee on Saturday.

Sophomore guard Chucky Hepburn led the way offensively for the Badgers (6-2) scoring a team-high 19 points shooting 7-for-10 from the floor, including five 3-pointers, while also recording four rebounds and two steals.

Tyler Wahl continued his strong start to the season, as the senior forward tallied 15 points, seven rebounds and one block.

Junior guard Max Klesmit finished with 13 points, including the go-ahead basket in the final seconds of overtime to clinch the win.

Connor Essegian rounded out double-digit scorers for Wisconsin, as the freshman guard scored 12 points off the bench.

Wisconsin had an impressive first half, hitting 16-of-23 field goals (69.6%), including going 7-for-13 from 3-point range. The Badgers also controlled the rebound game, grabbing 14 boards to Marquette's five, which helped UW take a 41-30 lead into halftime.

UW rallied behind its leading scorer Chucky Hepburn, who left right at the beginning of the second half with an injury.

Wisconsin scored 29 points in the second half, shooting 10-for-29 from the floor. The Badgers led by two with 23 seconds left in the half, but a dunk by the Golden Eagles' Oso Ighodaro tied the game and forced extra time.

In overtime, UW scored 10 points, five from Wahl alone and a clutch 3-pointer from junior guard Jordan Davis. Klesmit delivered the knockout with a late basket to give the Badgers a 79-77 lead in overtime. Wahl hit one final free throw to close out the win.

Next up, Wisconsin returns to Madison and begins Big Ten play hosting No. 22 Maryland at the Kohl Center. Tip is set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
