No. 2 Badgers race past Mavericks, 5-2

Five different Badgers score to extend unbeaten streak to six

MANKATO, Minn. – Thanks to a balanced attack, the No. 2 Wisconsin women's hockey team took down Minnesota State, 5-2, on Friday night at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.

Jesse Compher, Maddi Wheeler, Caroline Harvey, Kirsten Simms and Lacey Eden all scored for the Badgers (14-2-1,11-1-1-1-1-0 WCHA) to extend their unbeaten streak to six games.

The Badgers got on the board early as Compher capitalized on a Minnesota State (7-10-0, 5-9-0-1-0-0) miscue to give UW a 1-0 lead 23 seconds into the game.

However, Minnesota State answered with a goal with six minutes to go in the period to make it a 1-1 game after 20 minutes.

Wheeler found the back of the net early in the second period to regain the lead for the Badgers.

Harvey extended the lead late in the second period as she tallied her seventh goal of the season, making it 3-1.

Less than a minute after the Mavericks cut the lead to one, Simms answered, tipping in a shot from Laila Edwards. Eden scored off the rebound less than four minutes later to make it 5-2.

Cami Kronish stopped 17 of the 19 shots against her to earn her eighth win of the season.

"Do the same as today. Capitalize on our opportunities and defend strongly."

Junior Forward Lacey Eden
On starting the game off strong:

"It definitely gets the momentum going our way. When we can score the first shift, it kind of sets the tone for the rest of the game and then we can have a little bit of fun with it. We get some confidence and grow from there."
