Box Score MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin battled and took No. 10 USC to the brink on Saturday night before ultimately falling 4-3 during the second day of competition at the 2022 ITA Team Indoor Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
Ava Markham headlined the dual match for Wisconsin, earning an upset over No. 18 Salma Ewing at No. 2 singles.
In doubles play, Markham teamed with
Ariel Johnson to defeat Danielle Willson and Snow Han, 6-3 on Court 3.
Taylor Cataldi and
Nastasya Semenovski closed things out in impressive fashion, claiming a 7-5 win over McKenna Koenig and Salma Ewing on Court 2.
Xinyu Cai and
Alina Mukhortova held a 6-5 lead on the #35 doubles team of Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper before their match went unfinished.
Markham boosted the Badger lead to 2-0 by claiming the first singles point with her ranked upset of Ewing in a 7-6, 6-3 final.
USC responded with a pair of singles wins to even things back up at 2-2, as No. 1 Eryn Cayetano defeated
Xinyu Cai, 6-3, 7-6, followed by McKenna Koenig topping
Taylor Cataldi with a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
The Badgers kept the fight alive, as
Antonela Stoica earned herself a singles win over Grace Piper in a 7-6, 7-5 final to put Wisconsin ahead 3-2.
The Trojans would ultimately complete the comeback, however, as No. 52 Snow Han and Danielle Wilson earned wins over
Alina Mukhortova and
Charmaine Seah, respectively.
