Badgers go one and two in the 100 back
MADISON, Wis. - For the fifth year in a row, a Badger took home the gold in the 100 back of the Big Ten Championships. Sophomore Phoebe Bacon claimed the title after winning as a freshman last year and finished in 51.58 tonight.Â
Freshman Mackenzie McConagha wasn't far behind Bacon and was Big Ten Runner-Up in the 100 back with a time of 51.92. Wisconsin's historic dominance shined in the A finals having two other podium finishers. Kaylyn Schoof placed seventh in 52.55 and Mara Newman took eighth in 52.64.
Lillie Hosack had a stellar race in the 200 freestyle and placed third in the A final in 1:44.13.
The two other podium finishers of the night were Mallory Jump and Mackenzie McConagha in the 100 butterfly. Jump placed fifth and McConagha seventh with times of 51.78 and 52.63 respectively.
The 200 meter relay team consisting of Phoebe Bacon, Sophie Fiske, Alana Palmer and Lillie Hosack placed fourth. The team finished in 1:28.23 making an NCAA 'A' cut time.
Other notable performances include Jenna Silvestri, who placed second in the consolation finals of the 100 breaststroke and swam for a personal best time of 59.96, Katie McClintock, who took first in the consolation finals in 4:13.18, and Alana Palmer, who placed fourth in the consolation finals of the 200 free in 1:46.58.

Head Coach Yuri Suguiyama: "I challenged the team today to come in and be even better than they were yesterday and they did! Nearly all of our B/C swimmers improved their seeds from the morning and our 7 x A swimmers scored some massive points. Special mention goes to Kaylyn and Mackenzie for racing 4 x 100s today and to Phoebe for winning a Big Ten championship. Our 200 Free relay also kept the streak going of hitting another NCAA A cut. 3 days down, 1 more to go!"Â
