Here are five more things to know before the Badgers step on the mats:
1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin earned a dominant victory on Friday with a 39-4 defeat of Maryland on the road. Nine of 10 Badgers earned wins to nearly shutout the Terrapins at home. Chris Weiler (184) earned a 12-4 major decision to upset No. 11 Kyle Cochran and lead the Badgers to their team victory. The victory returned Weiler to the national rankings and an 8-8 record overall. Three Badgers — Eric Barnett (125), Dean Hamiti (165) and Andrew McNally (174) — all pinned their opponents. Down 2-1 with seconds left, McNally quieted the home crowd with the fall after turning Dominic Solis' takedown attempt in the final moment of the match (6:37) and improved to 7-5 overall this season. Now ranked No. 6 at 165 by Intermat, true freshman Hamiti extended his record to 17-0 overall, with 15 bonus-point victories and six pins this season. Two other Badgers also earned major decisions against the Terrapins. Garrett Model (157) shut out Conner Decker 12-0 and heavyweight Trent Hillger earned an 18-5 victory over Zach Schrader. Joining Hamiti in top-10 rankings, No. 7 Barnett is now 10-1 at 125, while teammate Gomez is also ranked seventh overall at 149 pounds with a 12-1 record. 2. 10 EARN RANKINGS: All 10 Badgers starters remain ranked nationally by at least one media organization. Wisconsin also holds a No. 9 NWCA ranking and a No. 13 Intermat ranking for duals. Three Badgers — Barnett (125, 7th), Gomez (149, 7th) and Hamiti (165, 6th) — are ranked among the top 10 in their weight classes. Four Badgers round out the top-20 for Intermat: Garrett Model (157, 28), Andrew McNally (174, 23), Chris Weiler (184, 27), Braxton Amos (197, 22) and Trent Hillger (285, 11). Kyle Burwick (133, Honorable Mention) and Joe Zargo (141, 21st) earned FloWrestling nods.
3. SCOUTING THE HAWKEYES: No. 2 Iowa saw its 29-dual winning streak come to a close following a 19-13 loss to Penn State on Friday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes got a major decision from Alex Marinelli at 165 and closed the dual with a top-three win from Tony Cassioppi at 285, but the Nittany Lions came out on top of a pair of overtime battles and won six-of-10 matches to win a matchup between the nation's top two teams. Iowa also earned wins at 149 (Murin) and 157 (Young) in the extremely close Big Ten dual match. Read the recap here on HawkeyeSports.com.
4. MATCH DAY: This Saturday, the Hawkeyes will also celebrate the team's Senior Day and honor nine Iowa seniors. The match will be Wisconsin's second televised broadcast on Big Ten Network and likely to also be the largest away crowd size for the Badgers in duals this season. Notable match-ups to watch include:
- Eight UW wrestlers and nine Iowa wrestlers are ranked nationally this week by Intermat. So let's be honest, all the matches are going to be must-watch.
- #7 Austin Gomez vs. #10 Max Murin (possible) at 149 pounds
- True freshman and undefeated #6 Dean Hamiti vs. senior #5 Alex Marinelli at 165 pounds
